Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a serious disease caused by the hepatitis B virus. The virus is spread from person to person through bodily fluid like blood, semen, or other bodily fluids from an infected individual. This can happen through the sharing of needles and syringes as well as through sexual contact with an infected person. Hepatitis B can also be passed from mother to child during childbirth. The virus can be either acute or chronic. Acute hepatitis B occurs during the first six months of infection. Acute infection can lead to chronic infection, a life-long infections that attacks the liver and can cause cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver, liver cancer, liver failure, and death.
